If you’re searching for a Green Bay wedding venue that gives you flexibility, Black Sheep in Green Bay, WI deserves a spot on your list.
As a Wisconsin wedding coordinator, I spend a lot of time looking at venues through a slightly different lens than most couple do. While I’m looking at if a space is pretty, I’m also looking at how the day actually functions. Where will guests go? How does the room transition from ceremony to cocktail hour to dinner? What happens when the guest count grows? Who is responsible for what? And, perhaps most importantly, how much work will still land on the couple?
This is a firsthand view of Black Sheep Weddings & Events through a planners point of view.
Meet Black Sheep Weddings & Events Located Near Green Bay, WI
Black Sheep Weddings & Events is located just outside Green Bay in New Franken, Wisconsin. The venue combines an outdoor ceremony garden with a neutral indoor reception space, giving couples the option to create a wedding that feels more natural, rustic-chic, or classic depending on how they style it.
The venue describes its space as approximately 8,000 square feet, with an outdoor ceremony garden, pond and fountain, floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, outdoor patio, two dressing suites, indoor bathrooms, a caterer's prep kitchen, two bars, and parking for 170+ cars.
And there’s already some pretty significant industry recognition behind the venue. Black Sheep Weddings & Events was named a 2026 Wisconsin Bride Best of finalist for Best Northeast Venue, putting it among a group of notable wedding venues throughout northeastern Wisconsin.
But the thing that really caught my attention isn't an award.
It’s the flexibility.
Why We Love Black Sheep Weddings & Events
One of the first things I look for when evaluating a venue for my couples is flexibility. Does the venue allow you to create the wedding you actually want? At Black Sheep, they have several packages ranging from DIY-friendly to highly inclusive, allowing couples the ability to choose how much they want to spend and the type of support they need.
Another thing I appreciate is that Black Sheep doesn't require a food or beverage minimum or a guest count minimum. Those requirements can make a surprisingly large difference when you're building a wedding budget, especially if you would rather put your money toward other parts of your wedding experience. You're not being forced to meet an arbitrary spending threshold simply because that's how the venue has that as a requirement.
Their Ewe Do Ewe package is essentially the bones of the wedding day, including the reception space, ceremony garden, tables and chairs, cocktail tables, dressing suites, patio, prep kitchen, bars, parking and audio/visual equipment. The package also includes late-night pizza, La Java coffee, and access to a planning portal. An on-site ceremony can also be added as well.
Now, if you’d rather have more of the details handled, the Love Ewe package adds ceremony access, ceremony coordination, DJ services, floral design, bar service, linens, select decor and a rehearsal package for qualifying Friday weddings. This package is a great middle ground for couples who want more support but still want some say in how their day comes together.
Then there's All Ewe Need Is Love, Black Sheep's highest level of support. This package adds upgraded floral, bar, décor and china packages, along with DJ and photo booth services and use of Black Sheep's limo bus. It's designed for couples who want to bundle a significant portion of their wedding services together rather than coordinating every individual vendor themselves.
And that's really what stands out to me about Black Sheep: you get to decide how much support you actually want.
You can take on more of the planning yourself, choose a package that handles some of the major pieces, or go all-in with an inclusive experience. There isn't one "right" way to have a wedding here and I think that's a pretty great thing.
What Does a Wedding at Black Sheep Cost?
At the time of writing, Black Sheep currently describes the average total wedding budget as approximately $20,000–$25,000, including expenses such as attire, florals, catering/bar, photography and music. They also note that couples with smaller guest lists and some creativity may be able to create their wedding for around $17,000–$19,000.
Their published package pricing includes:
Ewe Do Ewe: approximately $5,000–$6,500 depending on date
Love Ewe: approximately $16,000–$17,000
All Ewe Need Is Love: approximately $22,000–$23,000
Though we always strongly recommend couples check Black Sheep's website directly before building a budget, because venue pricing and available dates can change.

A planner's perspective on that pricing
A downfall we often see couples get lost in is the mistake of comparing a $6,000 venue package against a $22,000 inclusive package and deciding that one is "more expensive” as they're fundamentally different products. One puts more responsibility on you to source and manage additional details, decorations and vendors. Whereas, the other bundles a substantial amount of that work into the venue's package. When you're comparing venues, we always strongly suggest to compare the total wedding investment, not just the venue rental number. And if you're going with the more DIY-friendly route, that's where having your own wedding coordinator can become incredibly valuable.
What About Catering at Black Sheep?
Black Sheep requires full-service catering, but couples have access to a selection of preferred caterers (many of whom we also recommend!). These preferred caterers have a range of budget and meal choices and when used, there’s no additional venue service fee. Whereas, the choice to bring in a caterer outside of their preferred list, comes with a 15% venue charge with a $450 minimum.

Will I Need to Rent China or Dinnerware?
This is another place where Black Sheep gives couples flexibility!
Tables and chairs are included with the venue packages, while linens and décor are included in the inclusive packages. China is also included in one of the inclusive packages, but it can also be added separately or couples can work with their caterer for dinnerware options.
While, this might seem like a tiny detail, it’s a cost that can quickly catch up if you’re not aware.
What’s the Guest Capacity?
Black Sheep can comfortably accommodate up to 300 guests! The venue uses a variety of floor plan options depending on your guest count and table configuration, so the space can be adjusted to fit the flow of your specific wedding.
What Happens If It Rains?
This is one of my favorite things about Black Sheep from a logistics standpoint. They have an actual Plan B. If the weather isn't cooperating, couples can move their ceremony indoors and use the venue's beautiful floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace as the backdrop.
And I think that's especially important because not every venue has a rain plan that still feels like a wedding.
At some venues, moving the ceremony indoors means suddenly trying to squeeze 150+ guests into whatever space happens to be available and guests may end up sitting at dinner tables versus comfortable, forward facing ceremony chairs - and that is not the guest experience many venues are dreaming about.
Black Sheep's indoor ceremony option allows the ceremony to happen in a space that can still feel intentional and beautiful.
What Type of Couple Will Love Black Sheep?
I think Black Sheep will particularly appeal to couples who want options.
The DIY-minded couple
If you enjoy making decisions, sourcing vendors and being involved in the details, the Ewe Do Ewe package gives you a strong foundation without forcing you into a full-service wedding package. Though, this option doesn’t mean that it’ll be “easy” (as DIY weddings still require an enormous amount of logistics), that's where my role as a wedding coordinator can fit beautifully. You plan the wedding you want and I help make sure the plan actually works.
The couple with a larger guest list
If you're planning for 200+ guests, Black Sheep's capacity and floor-plan flexibility make it worth touring!
The couple who cares about budget flexibility
The lack of a food, beverage and guest-count minimum is a legitimate advantage for couples who don't want to spend extra dollars simply to satisfy a venue requirement.
Our Tip for a Black Sheep Wedding
Decide how much DIY you actually want
DIY sounds inexpensive, until it’s not. Sometimes "DIY" turns into you accidentally becoming the florist, rental manager, decorator, etc.
If you're choosing Ewe Do Ewe only because you want flexibility, consider bringing in a wedding coordinator.

One Idea We’d Love to Implement at Black Sheep
If we were coordinating a wedding at Black Sheep, we’d love to really lean into the venue’s warm, inviting atmosphere and use the space as a canvas for the couple’s personal style. The neutral reception space and beautiful stone fireplace create such a great foundation, which means the details can really take the lead.
I’d love to see a couple go beyond simply adding centerpieces to tables and instead create layers of intentional details throughout the space. Think beautiful place settings, textured linens, thoughtfully designed floral arrangements, menus or table numbers that feel cohesive with the overall stationery, and small touches at the bar or cocktail tables that make the entire room feel considered. The fireplace could also become a major focal point through floral installations, candles, greenery, draping or a statement piece that ties into the rest of the design.
And because Black Sheep offers so much flexibility within its packages, I think there’s a really fun opportunity for couples to mix practical pieces with personal details. You don't need every single element of your wedding to be elaborate. Instead, I'd love to see couples choose a few areas to really invest in and make memorable.
For example, if you're doing incredible tablescapes, let those be the star and keep the rest of the room more understated.
